PADI Dive Courses Thailand
You will be based on Koh Tao, a beautiful and fun island in the Gulf of Thailand, which is now one of the world’s top dive training locations. The options on Koh Tao are:

The location, diving and lifestyle

The island of Koh Tao (population 5,000) is a dramatic mix of dense jungle and hilly terrain in its interior and granite outcrops and beaches along the coast.

Koh Tao is surrounded by an excellent range of dive sites, all within a 40 minute boat ride, where you will discover a mix of hard and soft corals and abundant marine life. The sites vary in depth from just a few metres down to 40 metres, there is little current and the water temperature is always warm, ranging from about 27°C to 31°C. Visibility varies, but on average is around 10 metres. On a good day it can be up to 30 metres.

Common marine life includes Barracuda, Bat Fish, Trevally, Groupers, Angel Fish, Butterfly Fish, Parrot Fish, Anenome and Clown Fish, Wrasse, Trigger Fish, Moray Eels, Hawksbill Turtles, Blue Spotted Stingrays and Grey Reef sharks.

Diving is very social and there is a big dive community on the island so you will usually find yourself rounding off the day with everyone heading to the dive school bar to watch the sunset and the day’s dive video, before eating at one of the many restaurants. There are also plenty of bars and venues for late night island fun!

There will be plenty of time to relax and when you are not diving you can explore the island, visit one of the beaches, take a hike up to one of the mountain viewpoints or just relax by the pool! If you fancy a change you can also take a ferry over to one of the other islands (Koh Phangan & Koh Samui).

When to go

The dive season is all year round although we recommend avoiding late October and November which can experience heavy rain. It is hot throughout the year.

Dive safety

The diving industry is well advanced in Thailand so it is extremely safe and well run. Due to the quality of training, accidents are rare. In case of emergency, there are excellent medical facilities in the area including a recompression chamber and international hospital on the neighbouring island of Koh Samui.
